Pair of striking Japanese tansu-style storage chests/nightstands featuring beautifully figured wood and an impressive collection of decorative iron hardware. The warm, richly grained cabinet is accented by substantial iron strap hinges, bail handles, ornamental studs, and a prominent central fish-shaped locking mechanism with a tasseled key.
Originally inspired by traditional Japanese storage furniture, the chest combines utilitarian construction with highly decorative metalwork. Two shallow upper drawers provide additional storage, while the substantial lower compartment gives the piece its distinctive architectural character.
With its warm wood grain, dark iron fittings, and sculptural profile, this is a beautiful statement piece for an entryway, living space, bedroom, or eclectic interior.
